Tineke Strik warns in her post that free elections can bring someone to power who then slowly lets democratic values decline because once in office they increasingly label the remaining freedom of the press as left-wing nonsense. As a result, the people believe less and less in the fairly independent press and the right-wing press gains attention. And that is how the right-wing propaganda machine comes into being. Simple signs are that this right-wing press is no longer factual and likes to twist facts (a little) to its own advantage…
Let’s keep taking a step outside the borders: Putin came to power like that, also democratically elected, no problem at all, right? Is there still a functioning democracy in Russia with a free press?
Let us stay abroad, but look at the recent past. Hitler (do you remember him?) was democratically elected. As soon as he was in place, he took steps to restrict the free press and presented his own distorted truth as the truth. Was he still that democratic leader with a free press during the war? And could you speak of a well-functioning democracy, if we talk about the years 1937 to 1945?
And now let’s look at the Netherlands. Because that’s what she warns about in her argument.
Wilders! What is his democratic value? He is a one-man party. He was not democratically elected in his own party. In fact, he IS the party. He cannot be voted out. The program still contains Islamophobia and a scapegoat-oriented agenda. For years we have seen that the spokespersons of the PVV look to Wilders on various subjects, as soon as the discussion becomes difficult. He solves it for them. Even when plans have been made, it is openly said that they must first discuss it with Geert Wilders. This was always seen as normal, and perhaps it is.
But recently we see small changes. PVV is actually “extreme right” (a party that practices scapegoat politics, puts a certain group aside and mainly governs for its own people = fascist right!!). He already has his (!) man as Speaker of the House. And what happens…. for a while Martin Bosma is a good, if not the best, Speaker of the House that has ever been there. And what does he say to Dassen? The extreme right may no longer be called “extreme right”. It is simply “right”. He normalizes the extreme right ideology, at least that is what he tries to do. Slowly in small steps. The hardcore followers, bite. It is the left that is “extreme left”, let them get lost… only losers…. Factual news: You are only “extreme left” (that really does exist) if you hold the left ideology in high regard, but only for your OWN people. Equal to the right (who promise wealth and prosperity for their own people, where the left says we share burdens and benefits with OWN people only). No left-wing party has that in its program, so the Netherlands does not have an “Extreme Left” at all.
And then suddenly there is Baudet’s fantasy motion in which he wants to put Wilders on the “throne” via a motion. Wilders responds: “We have agreed that the party leaders will sit in the chamber, so my party must (the PVV is so democratic that it MUST…) vote against. But… I can of course make Fleur Agema party leader, then I can become prime minister”. In one passage two clear signals who is the boss… Martin Bosma, surprisingly, gives a defense, because this would then be a trick and not neatly in accordance with the agreements. He is immediately put in his place: “Do you realize for a moment who you owe your job to?”, Wilders snaps at him. In 15 minutes a very clear signal of how things REALLY are…
And they go along with it completely. It is not the Left that has its eyes closed. It is the voters of PVV in particular that have their eyes closed. And THAT is what Tineke Strik rightly warns about before it is too late. Because if it continues like this, we will no longer have that freedom.
I know that Anne Frank will not be impartial, but hey, Wilders is on her side… On the site you can read an important piece of history….
In 1923 he tries to seize power irregularly. He fails and the following passages are from the years after his (light) sentence…
The current leaders have learned from this mistake and are skipping it. Because through democracy it can also be done….

Translation from the website: The Nazis will now follow the legal path and try to gain power through elections. They profit from the economic crisis that begins in the late 1920s. The Nazis use this to express fierce criticism of the government and the Versailles peace agreement. This strategy works. In the 1928 elections, the NSDAP received 0.8 million votes, in 1930 this number had grown to 6.4 million.
Here is a glimpse into how that went. Do you see similarities with PVV? They also attract all layers of the population (even people like you, who are really not stupid or ignorant).
Here too, the current leaders learn from their great example. As soon as they are big, form a government..

Translation from the website: The fact that many Germans feel attracted to the NSDAP is not only because of their party programme. The party exudes strength and dynamism. Moreover, the Nazi leaders are young, in contrast to the grey politicians of the established parties. In addition, Hitler’s image as a strong leader appeals to the imagination. He will unite the people and put an end to political division. The Nazis focus on voters from all levels of society, instead of one group such as workers or Catholics. They also attract many people who previously did not vote. Nevertheless, the party seems to have passed its peak in November 1932. The economy is picking up again and the NSDAP gets 11 percent fewer votes than in the elections of July of the same year.
And then Hitler’s last step. He becomes part of a government… The others don’t think it will go that far, they can implement their own plans, is the average thought and expectation…
Back to our time: What do we see happening in our time now…
Especially read the last sentence, that step has yet to come (Agema’s joke fits in seamlessly here)…
Finally my own assumption and totally polarizing and colored and I hope to God that I am wrong…
During the negotiations Wilders eventually named a deadline: May 15, 2024. On that day ‘his’ government had to become a fact, on that day his coalition was formed.
May 15, 1940: The Netherlands became part of Germany. The army capitulated to the Germans
This may be a coincidence… but read and realize… the rest of my story.
